      TEXTBOOK INFORMATION DISCLAIMER

Textbook information is current as of today. Prices that are blank indicate that pricing information is currently unavailable for that item. Prices are subject to change without notice. The total purchase dollar shown at checkout reflects NEW prices only. If USED is available and has been selected as a preference by the customer, the USED price will be charged when the order is processed. Professors may make changes to adoptions or editions. The bookstore will make these changes on textbook reservation orders placed at the bookstore website. The bookstore is not responsible for purchases made elsewhere using the bookstore website information. Every effort is made to provide accurate information.

IS THERE GENERAL INFORMATION THAT I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PURCHASING TEXTBOOKS?
      • A student must register for classes before buying books.

      • Students purchasing textbooks should have the course numbers and section of the classes they are taking. Textbooks will be on sale for through Friday, February 5, 2016 for the Winter 16 semester.

      • The College Store staff can special order single copies of any book available. No additional charge is made for this service.  If expedited shipping is required, that cost will be charged to the student.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REQUIRED, RECOMMENDED, AND OPTIONAL TEXTBOOKS?

Required: denotes professor has indicated this textbook will be necessary for the class.

Optional or Recommended: texts or reference materials selected by your professor which they believe will be helpful for the class but are not required.

WHAT IF THE TEXTBOOK I NEED IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON THE SHELVES?

If the textbook you would like to purchase is out of stock, please go to the Customer Service area for assistance.  If we are out of the item, the college store can place a special order for the textbooks.  Generally speaking, most texts will arrive within 3-7 business days if the publisher has the item in stock.  Expect one to three weeks for delivery. When the text arrives we will call you if you are picking it up at the store, or we will ship it to you UPS if you prefer.

WHY DO MY TEXTBOOKS COST SO MUCH?

The graphic below demonstrates the portion of student dollars that go to the publisher (for paper, printing, editorial costs, general/administrative expenses, marketing, author income, and publisher income) and the portion that goes to the typical college bookstore (for personnel and labor, freight, operations, and store income) from new Textbook sales.

The total amount of the dollar going to the college store represents 24.1 cents or 24.1%.  According to the National Association of College Stores (NACS), this is an average for stores across the country. At NCMC, for the academic year 2011-2012, the amount was 23%, below the national average.

The staff at your college bookstore works diligently to see that all the required books are on the shelves for you to purchase. We guarantee that the book you buy from us is the correct edition and has not been illegally reproduced. We know that you have other sources for your textbooks and understand your need to find the lowest cost book. With that in mind, we ask that you not borrow our books (purchase for temporary use) when you do not intend to actually buy them. We would like the books to remain in new condition and available for those who need them. The money you spend at your store stays here to cover our costs with any excess going to the North Central Michigan College's general fund. For questions call 231-348-6606.
